How Do Decanter Centrifuges Actually Work?
A decanter is just a sedimentation tank wrapped around an axis. Solid particles that are heavier than liquid move to the bottom of the sedimentation tank by gravity and form a sediment (solid phase) at the bottom. A wine decanter, for example, can be thought of as a sediment vessel. The solid and liquid phases of a centrifuge are separated by centrifugal acceleration. The solid particles, which have a higher density and are hence heavier than the liquid, migrate outwards in the centrifuge’s revolving bowl due to centrifugal force. The sediment forms on the inside of the centrifuge bowl’s inner wall. The separation of solid particles from liquid is more faster and more efficient in a centrifuge because centrifugal forces of roughly 3000 g are applied instead of 1 g in a gravitational field.

What is the difference between two - phase separation and three - phase separation?
A: Two-phase separation horizontal screw settling centrifuge: It is composed of base, hood, main bearing, drum, screw, differential, drive system and control system. The drum and the spiral rotate at the same high speed with the differential speed, and the material enters the inner cylinder of the spiral through the feed pipe and enters the drum from the feed port. Under the action of centrifugal force, the heavy solid phase material is deposited on the wall of the drum to form a sediment layer. The spiral will continuously push the deposited solid phase material to the end of the drum cone and discharge it out of the machine through the slag discharge port. The lighter liquid material forms the inner liquid ring, which continuously spills out of the drum through the overflow port at the big end of the drum and is discharged out of the machine through the drain port.
Three-phase separation horizontal snail sedimentation centrifuge: mainly used for solid-liquid separation, that is, to separate a solid phase (the highest density) and two different densities of liquid phase. The drum and the spiral rotate at the same high speed with the differential speed, and the material enters the inner cylinder of the spiral through the feed pipe and enters the drum from the feed port. Under the action of centrifugal force, the solid phase material is deposited on the drum wall to form a sediment layer, and the two liquid phase materials form a light liquid phase ring and a heavy liquid phase ring respectively. From the drum wall to the inward, the solid phase layer, the heavy liquid phase layer and the light liquid phase layer successively. The solid material deposited on the wall of the drum is continuously pushed to the end of the drum cone and discharged out of the machine through the slag discharge port. The light liquid phase and the heavy liquid phase overflow continuously through different overflow ports at the big end of the drum. Thus achieving three-phase separation.
